STUDENT'S HOSTEL AT PRINCE GEORGE
PARK ROAD, THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE
The new hostel for the National University of Singapore creates a
deep sense of place for the students. Variety in spatial form and
a well-planned streetscape creates a crucible for vibrant varsity
life. The design is in the form of a great crescent that enfolds several
halls of residences. From the crescent several halls of residences
emanates perpendicularly. Each hall of residence has a central courtyard
space that gives a sense of group space. The courtyards flow out and
into the main street that flows parallel to the great crescent. The
main street becomes the vital connector. It is the public place to
be in and for relaxation. The 'street' gradually widens into a piazza
that can hold informal activities and sport facilities. It is destined
to be the social hub for the entire region. l.
